Bollywood50: Dance for Delhi!

On 17 November Zolder50 and Stichting Solis Nederland organise a fundraising & dance event for a Mobile Health Clinic in the slums of New Delhi. DJ Bernardo Partida, VJ Avantia and Christel Meijer will perform as well as a Zolder50 Bollywood Dance Group! Drinks (non-alcoholic) and snacks are free! Tickets are only 1 Euro and available during Zolder50 services, every Sunday at 16.00. You can also reserve tickets with Sander, mail him at manschal@yahoo.com .

Around 2.6 million people live in the slums of New Delhi. The slums often lack clean water, electricity, basic sanitation and other basic services such as health care. Slum conditions pose many dangers to the inhabitants' health. Diseases spread quickly in the densely populated slums. HIV/Aids is spreading as people are not aware of the problem. A high proportion of children are malnourished and vulnerable to diseases such as cholera and polio. Most diseases could be treated, however many still die because health care facilities are bad or absent.

Zolder50 and Stichting Solis Nederland support a the Christian 'Serve India' program to provide with basic medical treatment through a Mobile Health Clinic. A medical van will bring free medicines and treatment there where it is most needed. In urgent cases, people could be transported to hospitals, that are often too far located.

Bollywood50: Dance for Delhi!

Op 17 November organiseren Zolder50 en Stichting Solis Nederland een fundraising & dance event voor een Mobiele Gezondheidskliniek in de sloppenwijken van New Delhi, India. DJ Bernardo Partida, VJ Avantia en Christel Meijer zullen optreden, maar ook de Zolder50 Bollywood Dansgroep! Drankjes (niet-alcoholisch) en snacks zijn gratis! Tickets kosten slechts 1 Euro en zijn verkrijgbaar tijdens Zolder50 diensten, elke zondag om 16.00. Je kunt ook kaarten reserveren bij Sander (manschal@yahoo.com ).

Zo'n 2,6 miljoen mensen leven in de sloppenwijken van New Delhi. De sloppenwijken hebben vaak geen schoon water, electriciteit of riolering. Inwoners van sloppenwijken lopen dan grote gezondheidsrisico's. Ziekten verspreiden zich snel in de overbevolkte wijken. HIV en Aids verspreiden zich omdat mensen niet voorgelicht zijn. Een groot aantal kinderen zijn ondervoed en daardoor extra kwetsbaar voor ziekten als cholera en polio. De meeste ziektes kunnen worden behandeld, maar gezondheiszorg is slecht en soms helemaal afwezig. Daardoor sterven velen.

Zolder50 enStichting Solis Nederland steunen een Christelijke organisatie 'Serve India' om gezondheidszorg te bieden door middel van de Mobiele Gezondheidskliniek. Een mobiele medische post zal inwoners van de sloppenwijken voorzien van gratis medicijenen en zorg, daar waar het het hardst nodig is. In spoedgevallen kunnen patienten ook naar ziekenhuizen worden vervoerd, die vaak ver weg zijn.

It's time for some personal reflection. More and more I realise how important peace is to Christian discipleship. Moreover,inner peace is also a fertile ground for a more responsible and fruitful lifestyle. Therefore, I will not post on this blog for the next month.
Besides taking a rest,in the next month I want to focus on formulating a better environmental / sustainable development policy fpr the ChristenUnie (political party).

On this blog I added a google reader application to this website to share some articles relating to green/Christian/current issues that I found interesting.

If you have questions or ideas about issues you want to see addressed by The Joyful Anticipation, let me know (by mailing or commenting). I can address them after my blog fast.

Genade in Amsterdam

Amsterdam 17 oktober 2007, in de nacht koelt het af naar 5 graden. Op de Jodenbreestraat vechten twee daklozen, een man en een vrouw, om een keyboard. Twee grote getatoeëerde mannen houden de twee uit elkaar. Eén van de getatoeëerde mannen dwingt de dakloze man zijn excuses aan te bieden aan de vrouw. Genade in Amsterdam.
Ik loop eraan voorbij, een hoofd vol gedachten en flarden van gedachten op een machteloos lichaam. Ik verberg mij wat dieper in mijn kraag om me warm te voelen. Ik loop aan meer mensen voorbij en wou dat ik ieder ander was.

Thousands of bloggers unite to save planet

15 October 2007 – Thousands of online voices worldwide will join forces to push for environmental protection to mark the United Nations-backed first-ever Blog Action Day.

More than 12 million readers have viewed the 15,000 blogs – ranging from those promoting gardening such as “gardenrant.com” to sites providing tips for those interested in web businesses such as “entrepreneurs-journey.com” – participating in the event, supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

By uniting to raise awareness of environmental issues, the global blogging community hopes to reach millions of people and spur debate, the Nairobi-based agency said in a news release.

Topics touched upon by bloggers include the announcement of the Nobel peace prize being awarded to Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the safety of household cleaning products, and what people can do to contribute to the effort to reversing climate change.

IPCC and Al Gore win the Nobel Peace Prize

'The Joyful Anticipation' welcomes the Nobel Foundation's decision to award the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Al Gore the Nobel Peace Prize.

By its decision the Nobel Peace Prize Committee shows a deep understanding of the interlinkage between climate change and security issues. The Joyful Anticipation has earlier featured a series on the environmental causes of war (The Silent Sufferer).
According the the Committee Global warming "may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states."

Global warming is not an isolated problem, neither is it the only environmental problem. As they affect the very livelyhoods of millions of people, environmental problems pose the greatest challenge in our days. To ignore this, is immoral.

Air Pollution Cuts Life Expectancy in Holland

Air pollution has cut the average life expectancy of Europeans by nearly a year and contributes to the premature deaths of hundreds of thousands of people annually, according to a report by the European Environment Agency.

Levels of air pollution reduce life expectancy by as much as two years in the most affected areas of Belgium, the Netherlands, northern Italy and parts of Poland and Hungary, the report said.

CU A'dam zoekt kandidaten voor Gemeente- en Stadsdeelraden

De ChristenUnie Amsterdam wil graag in contact komen met mogelijke kandidaten voor de gemeente- en deelraadsverkiezingen in 2010.

Van kandidaten wordt verwacht dat zij

• lid zijn van de ChristenUnie of bereid zijn dat te worden
• naar verwachting de komende jaren in Amsterdam blijven wonen
• vanuit een christelijke overtuiging betrokken zijn bij en visie hebben voor Amsterdam, een warm hart hebben voor de stad
• generalist zijn, met een fijn gevoel voor politieke verhoudingen
• goed kunnen luisteren én debatteren, communicatief zijn en initiatieven nemen
• teamspelers zijn
• in korte tijd inzicht verwerven in actuele maatschappelijke problemen en deze kunnen vertalen in een politiek programma en beleid.
• bereid zijn zich in te zetten voor de voorbereiding van de gemeenteraads-verkiezing in 2010 (opstellen verkiezingsprogramma, campagne).

Politieke, bestuurlijke en maatschappelijke ervaring strekt tot aanbeveling, maar nieuw talent wordt van harte uitgenodigd te reageren.

Procedure: sollicitanten voeren een kennismakingsgesprek met het bestuur van de ChristenUnie Amsterdam. Als dit gesprek positief verloopt, komt de sollicitant op een aanbodlijst van kandidaten en zal gezamenlijk bekeken worden welk kennismakingstraject gevolgd kan worden. De groslijst van kandidaten, die de komende anderhalf jaar zal ontstaan, wordt ongeveer een jaar voor de verkiezingen aan de selectiecommissie overgedragen. De selectiecommissie voert de selectiegesprekken met de kandidaten en stelt een advieslijst op. Ongeveer een half jaar voor de verkiezingen wordt deze advieslijst aan de leden voorgelegd.

Vervolg voor Al Gore

Overgenomen van groenhuis.org:

Er komt een vervolg op de klimaatfilm van Al Gore, namelijk een boek. Dit boek
zal verschijnen op 22 april 2008 (uitgeroepen tot “de dag van de aarde”) en
krijgt als titel “The Path to Survival” (aldus de uitgever Rodale Books).

In het boek zijn vooral richtlijnen terug te vinden die wij als
gemeenschap zouden moeten ondernemen. We zullen radicale keuzes moeten maken om
onze planeet te redden. Deze radicale keuzes zouden de economie niet afremmen
maar juist stimuleren en ons milieu vrijwaren.

Er zijn voorlopig nog
geen plannen om dit boek te verfilmen.
