"God is weeping" to see such a focus on sexuality and the Church is "quite rightly" seen by many as irrelevant on the issue of poverty, he said.
It may be good to "accept that we agree to differ" on the gay issue, he said.
Desmond Tutu makes the point I tried to make in this series on critiques on Christianity/the irrelevant church. For the full article go to the BBC (where else?...).

Sander,
What's your opinion on something else he said, that "their sexual orientation is something they can do nothing about"?
Cheers,
Marc
Hallo Marc,
I think Desmond Tutu is a very wise man. In this particular case I agree with him. I personally do not believe in sexual orientation by choice. 'To do something about it', suggests two assumptions:
- homosexuality is a defect (a sin maybe) and should be repaired.
and
- sexuality is amenable.
I do not believe in either assumption. And as I continue the series on the Bible and homosexuality, I will further explain my views on the issue.
Tutu gelooft niet eens in de Hemelvaart van Jezus, beweeerde hij in een ZA krant, enkele jaren geleden.
