The Vatican approves the screening of future priests' sexual orientation. The Vatican's argument is that seminarians will fulfill high and responsible positions which justifies stricter screening. I would certainly be in favour of a strict selection procedure for any position, however I think the the Vatican's decision is wrong. The Vatican is concerned over the many sex scandals that have seen the daylight in recent years. The shameful abuse of children has caused embarrassment to the Vatican. Moreover, it took decades for the Church in Rome in to take responsibility and apologise But what does homosexuality, the inclination towards a same-sex relation between consenting adults, have to do with paedophilia, the inclination of an adult towards sexual relations with a child? The suggestion that homosexuals are also inclined towards paedophilia is false. By even suggesting such in selection procedures creates a clear bias against homosexuals, even when they are not ‘practising’ their sexual orientation. Why would homosexuals be more prone to child abuse? There is absolutely no evidence.
Apart from the ludicrous suggestion linking homosexuality and paedophilia, allowing testing for homosexual preferences again confirms the discrimination against well-meaning and suitable candidates with a homosexual orientation. Even if these candidates would accept that homosexuality is a sin and commit to a celibacy (as every priest in the Catholic Church currently should do), he will be rejected. The reason? The church wants to pre-empt sexual abuse! So what is - in fact - happening: Rome has found a scapegoat for it’s own shameful acts, the scapegoat is the gay Christian.

That's not exactly true now, is it? I appreciate Vatican's approach in the sense that they take the pedophilia issue as something internal and resulting from the structure of the Church, rather than calling these events individual incidents. Thanks. I'll have a look at it later and I'll came back to it with you.
