Well not exactly... Wanlong ski resort, in Chongli county is about 300 km NW of Beijing, in Hebei province. The resort is new and modern, mainly serving the new rich of Beijing and expats. The prices are hefty - by Chinese standards - I paid 400 RMB (45 Euro) for four hours of skiing, but that includes rental of ski equipment and ski wear. My friends who had 1.5 days passes, paid around 700, including rental. There are many slopes at different levels, although I didn't try most of the tracks, too difficult for a beginner. When we were there, the resort was not too crowded, no waiting lines for the ski lifts.
Chongli district is also worth a visit. Some of the villages around are nameless, only numbered. Interestingly, many villages seem to have churches, built in the republican era. It seems like missionaries have been quite active in this part of Hebei Province. In the mountains around Chongli we saw many houses carved in the cliffs now used as barns.
If it gets too cold, try one of the hotpot places, I had some of the best hotpots ever in Chongli, with beef or lamb or the spine of a sheep.
